I cannot begin to describe how much my dog Koro means to me...
he's the sunshine of our lives, bringing us endless joy...

he is the inspiration for getting enough excercise when he looks at us to say "ok..it's time for my walk"

he is the comfort after a long hard day at work greeting us at the door with the look of "welcome home..gee I missed you guys"

he is the loyal companion ready to do anything or nothing at all just as long as he's with us

and I guess finally, he is our little angel who listens, behaves, and just seems to appreciate the fact that he is a part of the family.

For me, my pets are the happiness at the end of a hard day. They mean the world to me because it's nice to have something so wonderful to look forward to at the end of the day. They are like a cold drink at the end of a run, like finding the extra fries that spilled out at the bottom of the package.....like the rainbow after a summer's rain. They are what makes life so complete, so full of fun and definitely sooo worth living!

  3. Helen:

My Sammy means the world to me. He is an English Cocker Spaniel who is specifically bred to be gentle, obedient, calm, and extremely friendly (without knocking you down!) He wags his tail furiously at any pat on the head or even just the sight of another animal or human, especially, keiki!

I am 100% disabled and even on my darkest days, Sammy is there to wriggle, cuddle, and make me laugh. At exactly sunrise, he is there with his leash at the side of my bed. With imploring eyes, he holds the leash in his mouth wagging his tail as fast as he can and touching me on the arm with that cold, wet nose.

So even if I hurt and want desperately to sleep a little longer, we are up and outa there. And I always feel better.

He follows me everywhere and loves to "help" me dig in the garden. Masaging that plush red-gold coat makes me feel wonderful all over.

He is my best friend, my very bestest friend!

    Aloha from Sammy and Me.

Leslie, I cannot pick up the tickets even if I were to win...but give them to a deserving pet owner. As you can see I just love the heck out of Sammy.

My pet, Sassy, means the world to me. I often times have a lot of stress in my life and all I need is to hug her and I receive, in return, a dozen wet
kisses and a loving look that seems to say, "don't worry Mommy." Some of my most precious moments are before bedtime or early morning when
she gets a little rascal and we play our game of "who can touch me first."
When I don't let her win, she growls and runs to the far end of the bed sulking,
which makes me laugh and, as they say, laughter is the best medicine.
My late Shih Tzu, Shadow, was the "beat" in our hearts. He "took care"
of my late Mom when she suffered from dimentia; playing with her and
never left her side. My pets are the source of my husband's and my joy.

  5. Norman:

Pets, especially the three dogs we have are priceless. They are our built in burglar alarm, our people at the door alert, our personal greeters when coming home no matter what time of the day or night.
Unlike humans, they will always come to you, so greatful whenever they see you. This is even after you had to scold them for being naughty.
I biggest thrill for me is when I'm laying on the floor, resting after a hard days work and one of them hops on my belly and starts licking my face.
One cannot describe the joy dogs bring to you till you own one. Then, you always must have one in the household.

My Jeannie Jo, a 8 year old lab/golden retriever mix, is my special girl. She was a Hawaiian Humane Society rescue about 7 years ago. We already had 2 dogs at home, and when I saw Jeannie Jo --- it was an instant connection. We put our names in to adopt her, but her owner ended up picking her up. About a month later, I saw her at Hawaiian Humane Society again! The counter volunteer, John, said yep, its the same dog, her owner was tired of her running away and gave her up....she came home with us that night! She is a big girl, about 60 lbs., with beautiful long hair and dark brown caramel eyes. She still thinks she's a puppy and lap dog. She has such a gentle disposition and sweet personality. She is always there for me when I've had a bad day or when I want to watch "Fluke" or "Adventures of Yellow Dog" for the 100+ time and need a canine snuggle. She loves to go for car rides and can be counted on to always be at your side...never wandering off. Jeannie Jo is our "bridge"...she was with us when our 2 original dogs passed away and she's still a constant with the 2 dogs that were eventually added to the family (I guess we like 3 dog nights). She's not an alpha dog, but a sweetheart that just brings love, wet kisses and melts your heart. She never demands anything, was so easy to housebreak and just a sweetie. Jeannie Jo is always by my side, whether working at home on a project, sitting down to read the paper, sorting the cans/bottles or picking up "dog stuff" in the yard.

I need to lay off the salt so I've given up my passion for sunflower seeds....Jeannie Jo will lay down so patiently while I pick out ticks (hey, I know we all get those outbreaks -- so no make like you never do) from her coat and does her doggie sigh. Jeannie Jo is my best friend, my canine angel, my buddy pillow.....

Every pet and animal is a reminder of how precious life is. They can't speak but tell us in their own way; the look on their faces, the wag of a tail and their presence.

Having pets (a rabbit, a dog and 2 cats) taught me that each and every animal wants to lead a good life and deserves to be treated with dignity, kindness, affection and love. That is the least we can do for them.

With all they give to us, our obligation is to give all animals - whether they are our pets or not, the best lives that we can.

  8. Lynne:

My daughter was a sweet little girl. Then almost overnignt she turned into a TEENAGER. Her priorities changed and her dog soon became my dog. Chelsey reminds me of my daughter when she was younger. She's always happy to see me and loves to cuddle up on the couch with me. When I call her, she comes running. When I come home, even if I've only been gone for 30 minutes, she acts like she hasn't seen me in a year. That's unconditional love!

  9. alma:

Cookie is all I have, since I have no family in Hawaii, She is my best friend With my illness of a bad liver she stays very near to me and gives me comfort when ever I need to cheer up. Cookie will automatically keep me on my toes and will keep me running after her toys when she brings them to me to toss, and that is when I laugh and thing look a little brighter. Her unconditional love is a great thing!!!! She expect so little and gives so much.

  10. Susie:

Our Koko was brought into our lives to provide companionship to our father, who lost his wife from over 55 years of marriage after a sudden illness. Koko gave him unconditional love, remained loyal throughout and filled the void.

As some years have past, father at age 90 also became ill & passed away. Now, the family is caring for Koko & he continues to very friendly companion. Always receives petting & hugs from our friends in our neighborhood.

In the past 2 years, Koko has brought many strangers together & today, we can now call them good friends. Periodically, we enjoy getting together with their pets at a nearby park.

  11. Tonya:

Our cat Sagwa was a baby when he came home to live with us. He is part of our family and acts like part of the family especially at dinner time. Like clockwork he calls if we are even a little late with his food. As soon as dinner time arrives and he sees us with his bowl, he just goes crazy jumping all over the place. He falls on my feet and then starts licking my toes. It tickles so much and then he starts purring when he rubs his head on my feet. I love to play with him because he's always happy to see me........especially when it's time to eat!!!!

  12. Sue:

I don't have any fur babies of my own, but am blessed to visit often with two 4-legged sisters that my mom and dad "belong to."

Long-hair chihuahuas Ginger and Lulu are the little mountain apples of my eye. But for all the joy they bring to my life, I'm so thankful for the greater role they play in providing love, light, and companionship to my empty nester parents on a daily basis. They are the perfect "children" who will never talk back, drink from the milk carton, or borrow the car. Hmmm. I wonder if Mom and Dad love them more than me? Kidding, kidding...maybe...

    Thanks all for sharing!

Pets have made a major impact on my life too. They cheer us up when we're sad or anxious and make us laugh when we really need it. It is so nice to feel loved unconditionally. Life wouldn't be as great without our pets.

For everyone shared a comment by 5 p.m., I've sent you an e-mail that there is a movie pass (admits two) under your name at the security desk in the Advertiser lobby. The advance screening of this movie is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Ward Theatres 16.
