Taking your clothes off to help animals?

January 5th, 2009 by Leslie

My question to animal lovers out there, would you take off your clothes to help your local animal shelter?

Fifteen respected community leaders, all women, did in Goldsboro, North Carolina to help the  Wayne County Humane Society. They, like the British movie 'Calendar Girls,' bared it all to help raise money because they love animals so much.

Wayne County Humane Society was in need of a new up-to-date facility. The building was old and animals were stacked in cages because they was no place else to keep them.   The county will donate $2 million for a new facility, but WCHS needed to come up with another $150,000.

To help raise the balance, these fifteen women stripped down in front of the camera.  The photos were tastefully done with private parts were hidden behind pets and pets photos.  Each woman got her own month and will be called Miss May 2009, etc.

The cover of the calendar is all fifteen women naked at the conference room table, smiling, during a meeting. It's a fun photo with extreme shock value at first glance. Here's the link to the calendar which will come out in the Spring:  http://www.goldsboro-wchs.org

On New Year's Day, talking to my ten-year-old niece Carly, half jokingly I asked her, "If we wanted to raise money to help animals like these women in North Carolina, which Hawaii celebrities do you think would help sell calendars?

The top of her list was Barack Obama, second was Kaneohe-born Mark Kanemura from "So You Think You Can Dance?"  She's right!  Barack Obama would sell millions of calendars!

My sister-in-law Julie said, "I'd like Greg McMackin to pose!"  Brother-in-law Clyde had to chime in, "I can just see the pin-up on the UH locker walls."

Here are other celebrities that were added to our list after a night of brainstorming:   Colt Brennan,  Jasmine Trias, Marisa Yamane, Kim Gennaula, Keahi Tucker, B.J. Penn  and Kelly Hu. Since it's for a good cause, I hope these celebs wouldn't mind doing it. It would cause quite a stir!

Which Hawaii celebrities  do you think should pose for this famous calendar?

  1. mokolai:

Mark Platte (cat), Catherine Toth (dog), Spud (turtle), Tsai-meister (dogs, cats, turtle), Greg McMackin (horse).

  2. Mr.M:

I would rather pay $ to see a calender of animals, as opposed to various women who are not particularly attractive.

I mean really, I hope their community purchases 0 copies and/or bans the calender. Disgusting.

  3. Stephen Tsai:

I would like to see Ferd "Buns of Steel" Lewis nekked.

  4. M:

I would like to see Liz Chun and Malika Dudley.

  5. John:

Hmm, that's a tough one. Don't think i'd like to see any of our elected officials in this calendar... that's for sure! haha. >_<

I'd volunteer my time as a photographer to shoot the calendar!

  6. mokolai:

The Lady With The Little Dog

  7. JUDE:

    LET'S SEE...
    Kalai Miller...Nick Riopelle...
Michael W. Perry and Larry Price...
    How about The UH Warriors!

I would be happy to be a photographer's assistant

  8. Mochi:

This is a great idea! When I was in college, I bought a calendar to support the 5-college co-ed naked ultimate frisby team. They apparently "needed uniforms" (socks) for an upcoming tournament. It was also tastefully done and I heard that it sold out.

If it were for charity, I'm sure it'd be an even bigger hit.

    Hmm... "local" celebrities?

How about Jason Momoa? Or Tia Carerre?

  9. CatDogMan:

This is a great idea, but a little late for this year. Movie stars always sell, so how about local movie stars? Not politicians. How about the crew of Lost. That would sell.

  10. Steve:

obama would be a fun calendar
the ny times already ran a photo of him at the beach

  11. Celia:

I vote for KGMB9's Steve Uyehara - I'm pretty sure he already has calendar-posing experience.

  12. Himechan:

    Definitely Ms. Leslie Kawamoto. :)

    Definitely Ms. Leslie Kawamoto.

hi himechan: we definitely do not want people asking for refunds!

  14. Kelli:

That's a bit much. I don't know which Hawaii celebs I'd go for, but a K-drama actor look alike would be nice. ;-)

    homey...you read my mind!

  17. dy:

No known celebrities, it would ruin them. Look for anybody on the street to pose. THAT would make them new celebrities.

  18. susie:

I agree, I would rather see pets!

  19. Masako:

    Shawn Ching!

  20. lesliek:

    boy..the responses were very good.

yep, i think those names would sell a lot of calendars... and since it's for a good cause, i think these celebs would be good sports to help out!

kelli: re: korean stars.. those would really be a big time seller especially with the kdrama fans....

  21. Butterflycrying:

I think that it is a cute idea, and if the women want to pose then good for them. While pet calenders are good, they are so common that you can pick one up anywhere sadly, so humane societies have to do something to attract more people.

Hot Local cops and firefighters always worked in my home state.
