What do you think of rodeos?

November 3rd, 2009 by Leslie

Rodeos aren't fun for the animals.

I think rodeos are cruel. It's not fun  or natural for these animals to participate in these kinds of events.  In some cases, calves are chased down and roped, over and over again.

Luckily, calf roping is banned in some states. Hopefully it will be banned in all states eventually.

If you see an animal being mistreated, please speak up. It will make a difference.

what do you think of horse racing....?

  2. CatDogMan:

I am an animal lover. I never like to see anything cruel happen to animals. That said, I don't see rodeos as that bad. It's true the animals do suffer sometimes, but it is a sport. Like boxing and wrestling, a physical sport. A large part of rodeos are about skill and training of horses. Calf roping started out of ranch work, same with bucking broncos. It develops the skills cowboys need.
I was in Spain and Portugal this summer and didn't go to a bull fight. Killing the animal is cruel. In Spain, the animal cannot win. It always dies. People will say it is tradition, but to me it is still wrong.
In Portugal, the animal lives, so that is better.

good question rosette.. i don't lik ehorse racing either. seems like stressing the horse for no good reason.

leslie, good answer. the horse racing industry is just as grisly and cruel as any other industry that exploits animals. horses who are forced to race are drugged up, whipped and abused. even prized horses who win races are often shipped to slaughterhouses overseas once their "prime" is over, where horse meat is a specialty. it's sickening!

Hi Leslie...off topic. I just wanted to say mahalo for the two for one tip. I went down to the Humane Society yesterday and adopted two kittens. Now, our Tribbles is big sister to two adorable and playful kittens. She is a little huffy right now about her kingdom being violated but she looks like she will adjust. We've been giving her a lot more attention and babying during this transition period. As for the kittens, they are so funny and we've been laughing since they got here. They've made themselves at home.
